Mississippi bluesman R.L.Burnside plays in the hard, throbbing style of the north Mississippi hill country immediately to the east of the delta region. The most famous exponant of this style was Mississippi Fred McDowell, a big influence on R.L.
R.L. first recorded for Arhoolie some twenty years ago, but it his several releases on Fat Possum, "Too Bad Jim" and "Bad Luck City" that have cast him into the international limelight.
R.L.'s driving guitar rhythms and intense vocals, in the mold of John Lee Hooker and Fred McDowell are a true blues voice in the modern era. They just don't make 'em like this anymore.
