The Blues Estafette 1997

Rosie Ledet

Mary Rosezla Bellard Ledet was born October 25th, 1971 in rural Church Point, Louisiana. She learned to play the accordion by watching her husband, Morris, play and practicing while he worked during the day. Since joining Morris' band she has been headlining throughout the Louisian-Texas zydeco circuit, and with three releases on Floyd Soilleau's Maison de Soul label, she is starting to make a big impact both nationally and internationally. Rosie writes most of her own songs, one early number pays homage to Clifton Chenier. Rosie gets into a deep bluesy groove on her accordion, the band falls in and she begins to chant her lyrics with a hint of French and a dollop of sheer sensuality. Look for big things from Rosie in the future. She will come to dominate the zydeco field, but enjoy her now while she's still so young and in her prime. A superb act.
